Journey to Wellville: A Path to Health, Healing, and Renewal
Choosing Wellness Through Detox, Mindful Nutrition, and Intentional Living
As I reflect on my health journey, my heart is filled with deep gratitude for the meaningful relationships I've cultivated, especially through intentional collaboration. These connections have been a source of strength, especially during the height of the COVID pandemic in 2021, when I made a decision that changed my life. As life has a way of redirecting us, during the pandemic, like many others, I craved connection, and that desire led me to the 15 day detox program—and later on a 40day juice fast (read my other blog on the 40day juice fast).
I signed up for a 15-day detox program Detox, deciding to give up meat, carbs, cooked food, snacks from my diet and only eat raw fruits, vegetables and a protein shake. My financial commitment involved purchasing a detox kit that was geared to flood my body with nutrient-dense, low calorie superfoods and break addictions to sugar, salt, carbs, and chemicals. The kit contained:

My mental commitment was on another level!!! What I didn’t expect was how profoundly this 15day detox would impact me—not just physically, but emotionally and mentally. It opened my eyes to the fact that I was ready for a much deeper journey toward well-being, a journey to what I like to call “wellville.” I realized I needed to strengthen my mindset to overcome cravings for foods that were harming my body by creating acidic conditions. I also realized i was packing 15lbs of Metabolic Waste!!
Metabolic Waste refers to the byproducts that are produced as a result of metabolism, particularly the processes that break down food for energy and cellular repair. These wastes include substances like carbon dioxide (CO2), urea (from protein breakdown), water, and other compounds that need to be eliminated from the body via the lungs, kidneys, skin, or intestines. These waste products, if not properly removed, can lead to toxic buildup in the body
On the surface, I was a seemingly healthy woman, weighing 125 pounds and conscious of my food choices. After exploring various options in the USA, I had come to the conclusion that organic foods were my safest bet. But even that wasn’t the full answer. As a mother, I had already faced the challenge of managing my children's eczema, a condition that left me feeling inadequate. I just wanted them to be free of pain and discomfort, free of prescription medications, but I often felt like I was falling short as a mother.
At the same time, I was also grieving the loss of my dear father, who passed away from kidney failure while on dialysis in Kenya. His passing left a deep scar on my heart, and in many ways, it felt like his health struggles were somehow a sign that I, too, might face similar challenges. "It runs in the family," I would think to myself, resigned to what felt like an inevitable fate.
When i embarked on the detox for 15days i wanted to understand what raw diet felt like. A raw diet, also known as a raw food diet, consists primarily of unprocessed and uncooked plant-based foods. The idea behind this way of eating is that cooking food can destroy essential nutrients and enzymes that are beneficial to health. By consuming foods in their raw, natural state, one can boost energy, improve digestion, and overall health. I had heard several testimonies on the benefits of raw diet as well as various complaints on the challenges so 15days seemed as a safer bet for me to try plus i had not been part of any challenging thing for a while. The detox kit was instrumental in resetting my body, cleansing metabolic waste, and giving me the clarity I needed to continue moving forward.
My daily routine looked like this (see below chart) except i replaced the 3rd meal of shake with a bowl of fruits and vegetables or a smoothie of fruits and vegetables.







After completing the detox, I noticed many positive changes in my body. My skin began to glow, my 4 a.m. wakeups became easier, my headaches vanished, and the night sweats and bloating disappeared. I dropped 15lbs! However, in the midst of these wins, I made a startling discovery—I had poor kidney filtration. I self-diagnosed this through an at-home urinalysis, and suddenly, my mind was flooded with fear and thoughts of my father’s illness.
I remember thinking, "It runs in the family, I can’t do anything about it." But that wasn’t the whole truth, was it? I had the power to choose. I had an option. And the days that followed were not just silent but full of reflection and gratitude. I realized that while I may carry a genetic predisposition, I also have the ability to make decisions today that could shape a different future.
My journey wasn’t just about eliminating meat or giving up ice cream. It was about reclaiming my health, learning that health is an option—a beautiful, powerful option that I’m so thankful I still have. Working with a wellness coach, I developed a plan to support my kidneys, incorporating detoxification and herbs. Drinking smoothies became a lifelong commitment Guide to Delicious Smoothies. I realized that the “safe zone” of organic food wasn’t enough; I needed to think even more deeply about the chemistry of the foods I was consuming and how they interacted with my body. Hearing stories of others who had reversed their illnesses reminded me of my own small victories with my children and gave me hope.
Don’t get me wrong—I love organic foods. They taste better, and I’ve always felt good about choosing them. But my healing journey has taught me that nutrition is about more than just picking the “right” foods. It’s about being intentional, listening to our bodies, and making choices that support our long-term health. Today, I am grateful to be alive, thriving, and transforming my mindset on my journey to wellville.
